Worldmap

Why did the mammoths died out? Was there a land called Atlantis around 10000 bc?
This site is to share some piece of code I wrote years ago and I found recently deep down in directory tree of my harddisk.

Years ago I was fascinated by a book I read about the a theory that earth crusts once have shifted over earth surface
(The Book 'When the Sky Fell: In Search of Atlantis' if you're interested).
This book shows evidents of the Pole Shift Theory of Charles Hapgood.

I found it hard to imagine how the longitudes would run if the poles were shifted, its difficult to determine the climate zone of shifted regions. A computer can do a better job on that task than my imagination. So I wrote a little program to read an earthmap in cylindrical projection and recompute a new cylindrical earthmap representing the situation with moved poles.

Ok, you can do so as well now. Just put in the coordinates of the new north pole and click 'Create New Map'.
As default i put the coordinates   60 N   71 W   for the north pole. So you can see at the bottom worldmap as it might have been 10.500 BC according to the Pole Shift Theory of Charles Hapgood.
The Pole Shift Theory explains for example why so mutch Mammoths died out in such short time when their landmass moved into artic climate zone. Thousands of them were frosted before they could putrefy. So there must have been an abrupt event to cause this.

This tool disregards the height information represented by the color. The earth globe is in fact not a real sphere but an elypsoid. Shifting the poles would for shure also result in changes of height, but this would go behind the scope of this little tool.

If you find it usefull, or like to see larger versions of the output image, just let me know and i'll improve this tool a bit.

How would the map of our world look like, if the poles were moved?
