Digital Stereo Photography
| In the winter months of 2004/2005 I worked on a stereo rig of two digital Casio QV-5700 cameras.
Both are mounted on a self constructed aluminium bracket.
The tripod screw holes of the QV-5700 are in an an awkward position on the side of the bottom of the cameras.
Using only one screw per camera can't fix the cameras properly to the bracket (there is a small tolerance of movement).
I solved this by drilling an additional hole for a second 3 mm screw for each camera.
Now both cameras are well fixed to the bracket.
Recently I added some cutouts for the battery case.
Now I can change the batteries without unscrewing the cameras.
The side by side arrangement of the cameras results in a large stereo base of 13cm.
The QV-5700 can be controlled by CASIO WR-2C or WR-3C remote controls. A simple Y-Cable forwards the signals to each camera simultanously.

The first test pictures where marvelous:

The stereo camera was ready in time for my trip to Mexico in April 2005 where I made lots of images.
Although the cameras are large they are good to handle on excursions. I attached a neck strap to carry them.
Only the remote control and the wiring are unhandy. (I should attach them on the camera bracket too).
Now I plan to build a new bracket that has a turn mechanism to switch between 6,5cm and 13cm stereo base.
Also a larger 13cm up to 50cm stereobase telescope camera bracket is planned...
